Our mission has always been to provide a safe platform for employers to connect with jobseekers. For the most part, we are living up to our own expectations - UberJobs is growing by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, with every successful application, there are always those unscrupulous people who try to abuse the system. And we have had our share.
Yesterday we removed over 50 job postings from our network. Those jobs had titles such as "Work at Home Typist" and "Work at Home/Data Entry". The job descriptions sounded great offering people easy money working from their home computer. However, before starting the job, you had to pay $7.00 for training materials. Needless to say, those were scams. After you paid your fees, you never heard from the employer again.
We sincerely apologize if any of you have lost money. Please contact PayPal or the money transfer service you used and report the crime immediately. This is fraud and the perpetrators must be punished.
At UberJobs, we are doing our best to filter out these scams, but at times it can be difficult. Con artists are becoming better and better every day at deceiving the public. This is precisely why you, the job applicant, must always be on guard as well. Anytime an employer asks you for money, it is a scam. Never ever send money for any reason! Instead, notify the proper authorities right away - and notify us as well.
UberJobs will be releasing a new version of the website soon. There we have added a feature for the community - you - to flag suspicious job postings. Hopefully, with everybody's help, we will keep UberJobs a safe marketplace for legitimate jobs.
Meanwhile, we have added more information about job scams in our help section. Please read!
